Public Housing Utility Allowances

The department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides a utility allowance to families living in public housing. The utility allowance is a monthly payment that covers the cost of a reasonable amount of utilities, such as electricity, gas, water. The amount of the utility allowance is determined by the Public Housing Agency (PHA) and is added to the base rent price. The utility allowance is calculated by the PHA based on the average consumption data and the unit size.
