Housing Authority of Florence Resident Services One Stop Shop Hosts Informational Session for Family Self-Sufficiency Program Participants

Florence, SC - The Housing Authority of Florence (HAF) hosted an engaging and informative session for participants of the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) Program. The event, held at the Resident Services One Stop Shop, featured special guest Ms. Amy Cooper from Florence-Darlington Technical College (FDTC), who shared valuable information about the college's Workforce Development Program and a range of support services designed to help individuals pursue their career and educational goals.

Participants had the opportunity to learn about no-cost certification and training programs available through FDTC, including high-demand fields such as healthcare, information technology, welding, and commercial driving. Several programs, including Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), Commercial Driver's License (CDL), and Basic EMT, are available without requiring a high school diploma or GED, increasing accessibility for residents ready to take the next step in their professional journey.

Eligible programs include (but are not limited to):

  • Administrative Medical Assistant (Certification Exam Included)
  • Basic EMT
  • CDL*
  • CNA (Certification Exam Included) *
  • Cybersecurity (Certification Exam Included)
  • EKG Technician
  • GMAW MIG
  • GTAW TIG
  • IT Tech Bootcamp (Certification Exam Included)
  • Medical Coding
  • NCCER Electrical Level I (Certification Exam Included not licensure)
  • NCCER Plumbing (Certification Exam Included not licensure)
  • Pharmacy Technician
  • Phlebotomy (Certification Exam Included)
  • SMAW STICK
  • Sterile Processing Technician
  • Structural Welding

(*No high school or GED requirement for select programs)

Requirements for the no-cost enrollment:

  1. Be a South Carolina resident for at least one year.
  2. Not be in default on any student loans.
  3. Not have received over $5,000 in SCWINS funding in the past year or used SCWINS finding for a different field within the past three years.

FSS Program Coordinator Vanessa M. Davis stated that the session provided "tangible pathways to economic self-sufficiency." The event reflects HAF's commitment to empowering residents for long-term success. This partnership with FDTC supports HAF's mission to foster personal growth and self-reliance.
